When our energy is low and our adversaries circle us round, clove, with its spicy sweetness, rallies our zeal and the fire of the angelic realms, mobilizing us into action to return malignant energies to their source. Ruled by the Archangel Raphael, whose name means “God has healed”, Raphael is often referred to as the angel of compassion (A Dictionary of Angels, p. 240). Prince in four of the nine angelic orders, Raphael rules “communications….the mouth [and] the tongue” (The Kabbalah & Magic of Angels, p. 181), making clove a potent stopper of gossip. Raphael “rules the zodiac signs of Gemini and Virgo” (p. 181). Among the animal totems that synchronize with clove are the fox, jackal and robin, great totems of fleet-footed action (jackal), crafty invisibility (fox) and unrelenting motivation (robin). Attuning with clove are its stones carnelian and fire opal, known for promoting decisive action. Long popularized as an ingredient in folk medicine, clove is used to “drive away hostile and negative forces” (Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, p. 86). Clove grants relief from procrastination by impelling us into action, provides creative inspiration, is particularly potent in protecting energy workers from stray energies during sessions and bringing immediate invisibility for when desiring to go off someone’s radar.
